Vocations

Every baptized Christian is called by God to holiness. A vocation is the specific way God calls you to live out that holiness — as a priest, religious sister or brother, deacon, or faithful lay person. St. Pius X Parish is committed to fostering, praying for, and supporting vocations to all states of life.

Are You Being Called?

If you find yourself drawn to prayer, service, and a life centered on God — you may be hearing a call. The signs of a priestly or religious vocation often include:

  • A deep desire to serve the Church and bring others to God
  • A love of prayer, the Eucharist, and the sacraments
  • A recurring sense that God may be asking something more of you
  • The encouragement of others who see your gifts

Don't be afraid. God's call is always an invitation, not a demand. We encourage you to pray, talk to a priest, and learn more.

Priesthood

The Diocese of Richmond welcomes men who feel called to the priesthood. Diocesan priests live and work in parishes, schools, and other apostolates throughout Virginia. For information on discerning a call to the diocesan priesthood, contact the Diocese of Richmond Vocations Office.

Religious Life

Men and women may also be called to religious life in a religious order or congregation — following a common rule of life marked by prayer, community, and service. There are hundreds of religious orders in the Church, each with its own charism and mission.

To learn about discerning a religious vocation, visit ReligiousLife.com or speak with one of our priests.

Permanent Diaconate

Married men (35+) and celibate men (25+) may be called to the permanent diaconate. Deacons serve the Church through preaching, baptizing, witnessing marriages, and charitable works. The Diocese of Richmond has a formation program for permanent deacons; contact the diocesan office for more information.

Vocation Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, you call each of us by name
and invite us to follow you in our own unique way.
Guide those who are discerning their vocation.
Give them the courage to say yes to your call,
and help our parish family to encourage and support
those whom you are calling to serve your Church.
Amen.
