John 12:1-11

In today’s gospel Jesus is with friends for a meal. True to form, Martha is serving the meal, and Mary is anointing Jesus’ feet. Equally true to form is Judas’s less than sincere concern about the extravagance of Mary’s gesture.

Though you were surrounded by friends, your enemies were not far away. You did not intervene because you knew that goodness and truth would triumph. There is great hope in that, even today—especially today.
