Matthew 23:1-12

Jesus warns the crowd, his disciples included, to avoid the hypocritical piety of the scribes and Pharisees. They are completely caught up in themselves and do not practice what they preach. He reminds his listeners that to be a leader is to be at the service of others.

All that I am is because of you, and all that I do must be done in service to you and my sisters and brothers.
